DOMINICA, WEST INDIES
A different kind of Caribbean.
Pagua Bay House sits on the wild Atlantic coast of Dominica — the side of the island most travelers never see.
Dominica isn’t the Caribbean of cruise ports and swim-up bars. It’s the one with 365 rivers, a boiling lake, sperm whales offshore year-round, and rainforest that begins where the road ends. Nothing here has been smoothed over for visitors.
Six private cabanas look out over the bay. An open-air restaurant serves what the island gave us that morning. The airport is ten minutes away, the rainforest a few more.
Sleep
All of our private cabanas & suites have ocean views, verandas, wood floors & vaulted ceilings. Our suites come with private outdoor living areas; one with a plunge pool, the other a two person Interior soaking tub.
Island Activities
Discover the island beyond beaches, discover crystal clear rivers, lush rain forest trails, waterfalls and authentic village life to experience Dominican traditions, and discover the islands rich history and culture.
Eat
Our restaurant uses fresh organic ingredients that are locally produced and sourced. Delicious flavors and a warm atmosphere are the perfect way to unwind.

The Suites at Pagua Bay House
Private villas,
full resort privileges.
Those interested in something a little different and a lot more spacious don’t have to look far. Our villas offer a truly unique opportunity to enjoy the full Nature Island experience in the privacy of your own ocean view home.
Located just minutes from our resort by car or foot, both Breezy Bluff and Kings Point have everything a family or couples traveling together need. And because you’re booking through Pagua Bay House, you’ll have full access to the same privileges as our on-site guests, including concierge service, restaurant, and pool. We’ll even provide a charge account so you can leave your wallet at home.
The Restaurant
Pagua Bay Bar & Grill
Open 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Open-air, set above the bay, with a 180-degree view of the Atlantic. American-Caribbean fusion, built around what comes out of our own greenhouse and what arrives fresh from the Marigot market. Our full breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus run from opening to close — order whatever you feel like, whenever you feel like it. Guests, locals, and anyone who wandered in off the road are all welcome. The cucumber gimlet, we’ve been told, is reason enough to come back.
And you don’t have to be staying with us to linger — pick up a Pool Pass at the bar and the pool, and the view, are yours for the afternoon.
OUR STORY
We asked a taxi driver where in the Caribbean he'd live.
Rick and I had been looking for a lifestyle change for years-traveled all over Central and South America, the Bahamas, the rest of the Caribbean. We got married in St. Croix. On a drive there, Rick asked our taxi guy where he’d live if he could pick anywhere in the region.
He said Dominica. His daughter had married a Dominican. Said it was the most beautiful country he’d ever seen.
We came for a scouting trip in November 2006. Moved here three months later. We opened the restaurant in 2009 and built the current Pagua Bay House from the ground up. We’re still here. Still cooking. Still surprised by the island most days.
Dominica: One of the World's Most Unforgettable Islands
Nine volcanoes, 365 rivers, and not a single high-rise. You came for the hotel. You’ll stay for what’s outside it.
Sperm Whale Watching
Dominica is one of the only places on earth where resident sperm whales can be seen year-round. Half-day boat trips from the west coast.
Kalinago Territory
Visit the last surviving pre-Columbian indigenous community in the Caribbean — just up the east coast from Pagua Bay. Crafts, cassava bread, storytelling.
Titou Gorge
Swim through narrow basalt walls to a hidden waterfall in this lava-formed canyon near Laudat — straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Alicia and Rick are great hosts and the atmosphere is just great. They gave us great tips and assistance to visit the island. The hotel is amazing and we had great food. It's definitely worth it to stay some days at this great spot. Will be back soon.

The cabana we stayed in was spacious and extremely luxurious. The bath was absolutely a game changer for us in Dominica! The food was some of the best we had for our whole stay… The hosts Alicia and Rick were unbelievably amazing. Nothing was too much… Oh, and not to mention watching whales breaching whilst sat eating breakfast!

Great place to stay. Small, individual cabins are set on a hill above the beach. The restaurant is one of the better food choices on island. The owners are very nice and were quite helpful in planning your stay and excursions. Highly recommend this place.

The coconut rum punch was a spiritual experience… perfect location in relation to the airport. One of the only places on the island with a food and drink menu that is open.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Pagua Bay. The property is gorgeous — dramatic ocean views, beautiful landscaping. Suite 5 with the plunge pool was very private, with an enormous garden and patio. The bed was supremely comfortable and the rainfall shower felt incredible after a long hike. Rick and Alicia are wonderful hosts who take the time to engage with every guest and help plan your stay. The restaurant packed breakfasts, lunches and beach coolers for us, which made going out for the day a breeze.

Expedia tried to sell us six nights at a vastly inflated price but we looked again and found that we could do a last-minute booking via WhatsApp direct with the Manager, Sheldon. Nothing could have been simpler.

We spent a relaxing five nights at Pagua Bay House… a spacious villa up the hill. While the individual rooms are close to the main part of the hotel, the two-bedroom, two-bathroom villa is great for families or two couples, especially if you rent a car.

Only 15 minutes from the airport, this was our first stop on the island. The setting was poolside overlooking the crashing waves of the ocean below… a great stop coming or going from the airport.

Both relaxing and energizing We spent a relaxing five nights at Pagua Bay House. Because the hotel had double booked, they moved us from the room we had chosen near the restaurant and pool to a spacious villa up the hill. We didn't rent a car, so we got lots of exercise walking up and down either the steep (sometimes slippery) quick path through the jungle or the longer (and wonderfully scenic) route along the road. All that footwork came in handy for burning off the delicious breakfasts, dinners, and tropical cocktails we had at the restaurant overlooking the pool. Be sure to visit nearby Kalinago ("Carib Indian") territory, for the model Indigenous village, al fresco museum, and gorgeous riverside walk. Pagua Bay offers river tubing, but unfortunately the weather had other ideas on the morning we had planned to go. While the individual rooms are close to the main part of the hotel, the two-bedroom, two-bathroom villa is great for families or two couples, especially if you rent a car.Posted on Tripadvisor

Beautiful Oceanside Stay This was an amazing place to stay. Beautiful grounds and very spacious rooms. Loved the wide open bathroom and ability to keep the windows open to hear the ocean sounds. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Food was good. We liked having a rental car to explore the island since there was not much else near by....although close to the airport. If you want beauty and seclusion this place is it.Posted on Tripadvisor

Great stop coming or going from the airport Only 15 minutes from the airport, this was our first stop on the island. The setting was poolside overlooking the crashing waves of the ocean below. The service was prompt compared to what we experienced at n most of the rest of the island. We just had snacks.. chicken bites and ceviche. The ceviche had good flavor but very little fish in it but overall , a great stop coming or going from the airport.Posted on Tripadvisor
