Our Story
Wake to the Atlantic on Dominica's wild east coast
A small house on the wild Atlantic coast of Dominica — built slowly, by hand, for people who want the island as it really is.
Rick & Alicia
Years ago, on a trip through the Caribbean, Rick asked our taxi driver a simple question — if he could live anywhere in the islands, where would it be? Without hesitating, he said Dominica.
We came to see for ourselves and never quite left. Pagua Bay House grew out of that decision: a handful of oceanfront cabanas and suites on a bluff above the Atlantic, a restaurant that cooks what the island grows, and a pace of life that the rest of the world seems to have forgotten.
We still run it ourselves, with a small team who treat every guest like someone they’re glad to see again.
Design & Architecture
A contemporary Caribbean retreat that fuses tropical modernism with eco-industrial island influences — galvanized roofs, polished concrete, and warm tigerwood floors. The result is a sophisticated blend of island heritage, sustainable design, and relaxed luxury.

Questions we're asked most
A few things worth knowing before you arrive on Dominica's Atlantic coast — the water, the rooms, and getting here.
Can we swim at the beach?
Pagua Bay is a dramatic Atlantic beach — beautiful to walk and photograph, but the surf is strong and it isn't swimmable for most of the year. For swimming, the river at the north end of the beach is calm and shallow year-round, a short walk from the property. Our pool above the bay is open throughout your stay.
Do all the rooms have a plunge pool?
Only Ocean Suite 5 has its own private plunge pool. Every other cabana and suite has access to the shared pool above the bay. If a private plunge pool matters to you, book Suite 5 — it's the only one, and it goes first.
Is there a television in the rooms?
No, and that's deliberate. The rooms open onto the Atlantic and we'd rather you looked at it. Free high-speed WiFi reaches every cabana and suite if you need to stay connected.
Can we smoke on the property?
There are designated smoking areas on the property. Smoking is not permitted inside the cabanas or suites, or on the verandas.
How do we get here from the airport?
Douglas-Charles Airport is roughly ten minutes away — the shortest airport transfer on the island. We arrange pick-up and drop-off on request; let us know your flight details at least 24 hours ahead and we'll have someone waiting.
Do we need a rental car?
Not for the property itself — the restaurant, pool, beach, and trails are all here. But Dominica rewards exploring, and most guests hire a car for at least part of their stay. Roads are mountainous; drive in daylight where you can.
Are the rooms air-conditioned?
Yes. Every cabana and suite is air-conditioned, though the buildings were positioned to catch the prevailing trade winds — most guests open the doors and let the sea air do the work.
Can a third guest stay in the room?
Select cabanas take a third guest for a nightly surcharge. Rollaway beds and cribs are available on request. Let us know when you book so we can confirm the right room for your party.
What's included in the rate?
Rates are quoted in US dollars per night for single or double occupancy, and are subject to a 10% service charge and 10% VAT. WiFi, parking, the pool are all included.
What's the deposit and cancellation policy?
A three-night deposit is taken per room at the time of booking — five nights for the high season period of 20 December to 3 January. The balance is charged on arrival. Cancellations or changes made within 60 days of arrival are subject to a three-night fee, five nights in high season. Special packages require full payment at booking, carry a three-night minimum, and are non-refundable.
